About the Author

Edwin R. Gerler, Jr. is a Professor in the College of Education at North Carolina State University.  He has been a teacher, counselor, and consultant in schools throughout the United States.  He is the past Associate Dean for Research and External Affairs in the College of Education at NC State. 

He has written extensively, served as editor-in-chief of two national counseling journals, and co-produced a film on elementary school counseling.  He is also the founding co-editor of the online publication, Meridian:  A Middle School Computer Technologies Journal located at:

Dr. Gerler is the founding editor of the Journal of School Violence published by Taylor & Francis. The journal's Internet site is located at:

Dr. Gerler’s books include Counseling the Young Learner, Elementary School Counseling in a Changing World, and The Challenge of Counseling in Middle Schools.  One of his books, How the Naked Ape Got to the Land of Nod, reflects his interest in using psychology, theology, and humor to examine human difficulties creatively.  More information about this book is available at:
