Leadership and Collaboration in School Counseling

According to most contemporary paradigms of school counseling, counselors serve as leaders and collaborators who engage in systemwide change to ensure student success. These paradigms suggest that school counselors should help every student gain access to rigorous academic preparation that will lead to greater opportunity and increased academic achievement. Some of our graduate students have argued that taking on the role of leadership toward academic achievement diminishes the primary role of the school counselor in improving the psychological and social well-being of students.

What do you think about the school counselor as a leader and collaborator whose primary goal is to improve educational fulfillment and academic achievement of all students?
