Perspectives on Assessment in School Counseling

One of our counselor education interns wrote the following in his journal during the sixth week of his school counseling internship:

I have always heard that school counselors spend an inordinate amount of time with testing at school. My internship supervisor convinced the administration at her school that there was a need for a testing coordinator. The coordinator who was hired happens to be a licensed school counselor, but the coordinator's work has freed up the other counselors to do what counselors as supposed to do!

What roles should school counselors play in assessment? How can counselors improve their effectiveness by rethinking what they do in assessment? Tell us what you think.
