The Handbook and the Internet

This Handbook is at the beginning of a major effort from Haworth Press to present new thinking and scholarship on school violence. The Handbook is the foundation for a series of books from Haworth on school violence. International discussions via the Internet will bring together ideas for other books in the series. In addition, the Handbook is a companion work to the Journal of School Violence, a new professional journal launched in 2002 from Haworth. Both the Handbook and the Journal, although print documents, are living products in the sense that they will evolve hour by hour, day by day, on the Internet and will be enriched by the varied, future possibilities offered by the Internet. The Internet sites for these products are as follows:

Journal of School Violence: http://genesislight.com/JSV.html

Those of us who are exploring the opportunities and the challenges of the Internet for confronting school violence see the Web as an amazing new tool. The print version of the Handbook of School Violence, for example, will be enriched as scholars and practitioners across the world and across cultures use the Handbook’s Internet site to offer immediate critique and new thinking to what exists in the book. The Internet also offers a visual companion to the words that are often insufficient in depicting the grief brought by school violence. Some key Internet sites across the world contributed to my thinking as I developed this Handbook. (click here for the links to those sites).
