Features of the Handbook

The Handbook of School Violence addresses the Causes of School Violence, the Prevention of School Violence, and Interventions in Cases of School Violence. The Handbook features:
• an Internet site - - http://genesislight.com/hsv%20files/ - - that brings scholars and practitioners together to invent online and print products for school violence prevention and intervention;
• writing from new scholars, blended with the work of some veteran authors, to provide a foundation for creative thinking about school violence prevention and intervention;
• a new look at how “connectedness” with family, school, and with academic success influence school violence;
• means to prevent school violence using (a) threat assessment techniques, (b) peer mediation programs, (c) empathy with youngsters involved in gangs, and (d) approaches for reducing weapons in schools.
• a focus on crisis intervention and support services which is rooted in field-based experience with school violence, particularly, in the aftermath of the Santana High School shootings (March 5, 2001) in San Diego, California.
• an overview of how various domains of human functioning contribute to understanding the causes of school violence and to developing strategies for school violence prevention and intervention.
